Ever wished you could control your body temperature at will? Well, Sony might have the answer. This is the Reon Pocket 5, a “wearable thermo device” designed to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
It's a relatively simple concept: a main unit with a rechargeable thermal module, a neckband to hold it in place, and a sensor tag to monitor the ambient temperature and humidity.
Positioned beneath your shirt, the device uses Peltier elements and a fan to either heat or cool your body. You can control the device manually using the accompanying Reon Pocket smartphone app or let it run automatically.
We had the opportunity to test it in both warm and cool conditions. The heating function provides a gentle warmth, while the cooling offers refreshing relief. We reckon it could prove handy while commuting or attending outdoor events where other temperature control options are limited.
Battery life is a factor but Sony claims the Reon Pocket 5 should offer up to 17 hours of cooling when set to its lowest power level, or 4 hours at its max setting. Warming is a little more battery-intensive but you can expect around 8 hours at level one or four hours of heating at max power.
While the Reon Pocket 5 is comfortable and the app is user-friendly, its overall effectiveness will depend heavily on individual needs and environmental factors.
