The lower timing sprocket - or gear - on an LS motor is press fit on to a key on the crank. Removing it can be a bit tricky to figure it out, but I found a very quick way to do this.
Keep in mind, this method may damage the teeth on the sprocket so I would only try this method if you plan to replace it along with a new timing chain set - which is what I was doing.
