Al ser preguntado por la letra de Holy Diver Dio afirmó que no se trata del Diablo cayendo a nuestro plano terrenal, sino de una figura como la de Cristo que se va de un planeta para ir a otro a cumplir una función similar: sacrificarse por los pecados de la humanidad para que esté limpios y puedan empezar de cero. De ahí el apodo de “Holy Diver”, el viajero sagrado, que iba de un mundo a otro para lograr la absolución de sus habitantes. Pero Dio también hizo énfasis en el egoísmo de las personas, quienes no querían que el Holy Diver se vaya a salvar a otros lugares y así quedarse con ellas, como si “fuera de su propiedad”.
When asked about the lyrics of Holy Diver, Dio stated that it is not about the Devil falling to our earthly plane, but about a figure like that of Christ who leaves one planet to go to another to fulfill a similar function: to sacrifice himself for the sins of humanity so that it is clean and they can start from scratch. Hence the nickname "Holy Diver", the sacred traveler, who went from one world to another to achieve the absolution of its inhabitants. But Dio also emphasized the selfishness of the people, who did not want the Holy Diver to be saved in other places and thus stay with them, as if "it were their property."
