Plot:
In the last season Batman is defeated by Bane, Bruce manages to survive because Alfred has managed to rescue him, but Bruce's physical condition has deteriorated to such an extent that he has to use a wheelchair.

As a result, the mantle and burden of Batman is passed on to Azrael, who had also defeated Dick Grayson, who had challenged him for the mantle. Azrael says that he will restructure Gotham without Bruce's moral code, but that he will remember his legacy. Azrael calls himself a “knight of the Order of Saint Dumas of the 12th century”, “tomorrow will be the day to rid the new Gotham of all evil”.

Bane becomes Gotham's new king of crime together with Hugo Strange who helps him with his substance “RRNA” which increases Bane's strength exponentially but also drives him mad, losing his sanity and even his memory at various times.

Last season also saw the death of Jason Todd by the Joker, which contributed to Bruce being emotionally shaken during the fight against Bane. The Joker is on the run but is trying to overthrow Bane because he won't accept his reign of crime.
Dick's friend “Tim Drake” joins the Batfamily, having trained to be Todd's replacement since the previous season, Drake seems to be very intelligent and cunning.
Alfred and Bruce will have a very challenging role in helping the new Batman team strategize, while Gordon and the DPGC try to minimize the crimes of Bane's new reign.
