The State of Codecs 2023
The codec landscape has been relatively quiet, at least in terms of new entrants. But the device landscape is more crowded than ever, so it hasn’t gotten any easier to determine which codecs are table stakes and which ones you can do without. We sit down with a panel of experts to assess where all the major codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, and AV1), as well as newer entrants like EVC and LCEVC, should fit in your streaming strategy.
