This newsreel was filmed by Soviet frontline cameramen during the surrender of the Courland Group, from May 9 to 11, 1945. In fact World War II continued in the Baltics after May 9, 1945. On May 8, at 11 p.m. in Ezer, the commander of the Army Group "Courland", General Hilpert signed the act of unconditional surrender of his subordinate troops. In total 42 generals, 8,038 officers and 181,032 soldiers and non-commissioned officers capitulated to the troops of Govorov's Leningrad front. As trophies the Soviet troops received a huge amount of armored vehicles.
